Abid's Trip to Islamabad
By Abid Rizwan
I recently took a long overdue trip to Islamabad, located in Pakistan, as I have family members there who I hadn't seen in quite some time. This was a wonderful trip that gave me the opportunity to re-connect with my roots alongside the people I love the most.
Location
Nestled against the backdrop of the Margalla Hills and boasting a unique blend of modernity and tradition, Islamabad is not just the political capital of Pakistan but a treasure trove of cultural wonders waiting to be explored. As my family set foot in this vibrant city, we were greeted by a kaleidoscope of colors, the warmth of the local hospitality, and the promise of a journey filled with discovery. We flew with Etihad Airways from Dublin to Abu Dhabi and then on to Islamabad.
What I Loved
My favourite thing about this trip was getting to see my family as I hadn't had the chance to visit them in a long time. It was very special getting to explore my birth country with them.
Activities & Places to See
- Visit Faisal Mosque, an architectural masterpiece that stands as one of the largest mosques in the world.
- Nature enthusiasts will fall in love with the Margalla Hills National Park, offering a perfect escape from the urban hustle. Hiking trails, diverse flora and fauna, and panoramic views of the city make this a haven for outdoor activities.
- Immerse yourself in Pakistan's rich cultural heritage at the Lok Virsa Museum, where exhibits showcase traditional crafts, folk art, and historical artifacts & provide a captivating glimpse into the country's vibrant traditions.
Food & Bars
Islamabad offers a diverse culinary scene, ranging from traditional Pakistani delights to international cuisines. Explore the vibrant street food scene in places like F-6 Super Market and Aabpara Market where you can try local favorites such as golgappas, chaat, and seekh kebabs. For international cuisine, there are plenty of spots offering a variety of dishes ranging from Italian and Chinese to Continental food.
