Sandra's Trip to Oman

Sandras Trip To Oman Macro

Location

Oman is located in the southeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula, bordered by the United Arab Emirates to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west, and Yemen to the southwest. It features vast deserts, rugged mountains, lush oases, and historic coastal towns, making it a unique blend of natural beauty and rich cultural heritage in the heart of the Middle East. We flew from Dublin to Dubai, and then from Dubai on to Muscat via connecting flight. On arrival at Muscat Airport we were met by a representative of Experience Oman and taken to our hotel, the 5* St Regis Al Mouj Muscat Resort, which is about a 15 minute drive from the airport. This is a recently opened property, located along a 360m stretch of beaches, has 250 guest rooms and suites that offer captivating views of both the beachfront and the golf course. It also has 7 restaurants which offer a variety of international cuisines including Greek, Italian and Chinese. We later departed the St Regis for an overnight stay at the Anatara Resort, located in the Green Mountain (part of the Al Hajar Mountain range) with views of the Canyon. On returning to Muscat, we checked in to the 5* Kempinski Hotel, walking distance from our 1st hotel here, The St Regis.

What I Loved

All of the hotels we stayed at were beautiful and served as a great base for our visits to each destination. They had all the facilities and amenities we needed during our stay, and the staff were extremely helpful. I also loved getting to experience the culture of Oman. This was so interesting and resulted in some fantastic experiences that I'll never forget.

Activities & Places to See

  • Visit the city of Nizwa for some sightseeing. Make sure to stop off at the Souq and the Nizwa Fort.
  • Do a tour of Muscat City, where you can see attractions such as the Royal Opera House, the National Museum, the Bait Al Zubair Souq and the Al Alam Palace.
  • Swim with turtles at the Daymaniyat Islands, located just off the coast of Muscat. We did this with Sea Oman, who provided us with all the gear needed for snorkeling.

Food & Bars

During our visit we enjoyed lots of tasty meals in the hotels we were staying at as well as in some traditional restaurants located around the cities we visited. I would recommend trying Qabuli during your visit to Oman. This is a variation of biryani, and contains chickpeas, raisins, and a special mix of spices. It's delicious!
