Vanessa's Trip to Abu Dhabi
By Vanessa Holohan
In June I visited Abu Dhabi to review how the country was reopening post COVID. I flew with Etihad from Dublin to Abu Dhabi in business class and returned from Abu Dhabi to Dublin in economy. From the airport, it is approximately 40 minutes to the Corniche or the business center of Abu Dhabi.
Location
Abu Dhabi is the capital and the second-most populous city after Dubai of the United Arab Emirates, after Dubai. Yas Island, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world, presents a family-friendly entertainment hub like no other. Abu Dhabi is a city overflowing with Arabian mystique and with an intriguing blend of ancient and modern culture side by side. Abu Dhabi offers visitors a superb choice of hotels, stunning sandy beaches, world class theme parks like Yas Island and Ferrari World, glamorous shopping malls, desert dune adventures, highly rated golf courses and ancient cultural traditions.
What I Loved
During my trip to Abu Dhabi I stayed in 3 different hotels; Grand Hyatt Abu Dhabi, Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi and the Andaz Capital Gate, all of which I loved. Everything is pristine and polished, from the reception, the guest rooms, dining experiences and facilities on offer. The staff are attentive, discrete and helpful. The atmosphere is tranquil and chilled. While the heat is, well, hot, air-conditioning is everywhere and a quick dip in the pool is wonderfully refreshing.
Activities & Places to See
- Visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
- Admire the Global Culture & Art Collection at the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
- Kayak Abu Dhabi's Eastern Mangroves.
- Day Trip to the Desert Dunes.
Shopping
Yas Mall is not to be missed on a trip to Abu Dhabi. It’s filled with all kinds of shops so you’re sure to find whatever you’re looking for. Allocate yourself a full day to look around!
Food & Bars
I dined at numerous restaurants during my trip to Abu Dhabi. We enjoyed a lovely meal at Maté, a restaurant which specialises in combining cuisines from the East and West of Argentina and Lebanon. The food here was outstanding, with Argentinian steak featuring prominently on the menu. We also visited Verso, the fabulous Italian restaurant in the Grand Hyatt Abu Dhabi. The extensive menu here includes antipasti dishes, pasta and pizza options with kids’ menu and a stylish but relaxed feel.
